What we've been up to in the garden - The Old Shed and Gardens

What we've been up to in the garden

As Autumn draws to a close, the soil is still warm enough for a last-minute dash of plantings, ready for our upcoming Winter crop.

Nestled in their new Veggie bed homes we have planted out Snow Peas, Beans, Radishes, Carrots, Silver Beet and Greens.  With Zucchini, Asian Greens and The brassica’s (Cauliflower, Kale, Broccoli) all soon to follow!

Flowers and Herbs are going to be a big part of the Old Shed Gardens as well, essential for pollination and biodiversity, they also serve to be edible and medicinal plus they look superb. A colourful garden is a bountiful garden.

To date we have planted Zinnias, Ranunculus, Chamomile, Calendula Feverfew and Lavender.

Also dedicating some time to tidying up and giving extra love to the existing Thyme, Rosemary, Sage, Comfrey, Parsley and Aloes that were already on site.

Just today, the Sunflower seeds arrived…so we are all excited about the joy they will bring.

It is a delicate balance of our time at the moment - clearing out beds, weeding and re invigorating the soil whilst sowing multiple trays of seeds and re-establishing crop companionship.

Winter is a slow and gentle time in the garden, but we are ensuring that there will still be plenty of food on the table and come Spring, the Garden will take on a whole new lease of life.
